Chef Showdown at Miramonte Resort & Spa Benefits Shelter from the Storm

Attendees Vote on Best Appetizer, Dinner and Dessert

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – November 16, 2011 – Miramonte Resort & Spa is holding a competitive Chef Showdown on Friday, December 2 at 5:30 p.m.  Competing with creativity and culinary styles, Executive Chef Robert Nyerick of the resort will compete with a Celebrity Chef, Lee Hillson from Royal Palms resort in Phoenix, Arizona. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Shelter from the Storm, the Valley’s only organization dedicated to assisting domestic abuse victims.

News Anchor Gino LaMont from KMIR NBC channel 6 hosts the evening as MC beginning with a wine reception, introduction of the chefs and the voting format. 

Executive Chef Lee Hillson brings top-notch talent to the table as seen in his battle with Iron Chef Cat Cora on the blockbuster Food Network show, Iron Chef America.  His accolades include numerous stints as a Celebrity Chef on luxury cruises through the Mediterranean, Hawaiian Islands and Alaska. Notably he has created remarkable meals for luminaries such as President George W. Bush, Barbra Streisand, Princess Diana, musician Billy Joel, and others. Republic/azcentral.com Readers’ Choice Awards.  In addition, home town local credits in Phoenix include creating a First Class menu for British Airways Phoenix to London flights, nomination to the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame, and awarded Reader’s Choice by Arizona Republic newspaper and AZcentral.com. Hillson has repeatedly taken top honors in Zagat Surveys and Gayot.com, and he has cooked on many occasions at the James Beard House in New York, hosted a Friends of James Beard dinner at the resort.

Showcasing his excellence and dedication in cuisine, Executive Chef Robert Nyerick goes head-to-head with Hillson in this exciting competition.  Nyerick’s talent is influenced from his international experience as Sous Chef at the Bern, Switzerland and Swiss Grand Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. He has worked with food and beverage festivals around the globe including those in Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong where a variety of styles and cultures were introduced to him.  Prior to his international experiences, Nyerick was applied his culinary talents as Executive Sous Chef with Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Swiss Hotel Boston, Bellevue Palace Hotel,  Copley Plaza Hotel and Westin Hotel, both in Boston, Massachusetts.
Nyerick’s creative approach to American cuisine has earned him recognition in local and national publications, magazines, television & blogs.

Chef Showdown is a new event added to the Miramonte’s annual five-week Desert Holidays celebration – designed to involve the local community to celebrate the season and enjoy the holiday cheer and Mediterranean atmosphere of the resort.  Activities offered complimentary to local residents include holiday story time every Friday at 8 p.m., Santa’s Workshop open on Friday’s and Saturday’s from  10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with crafts, cookie decorating, roasting chestnuts and making s’mores while sipping hot cocoa around the fire pit, a Letters to Santa drop box in the lobby, and more.
Tickets for Chef Showdown are $150 per couple.
