Many different kinds of groups plan an annual meeting, retreat or conference. Frequently groups that are Social, Military, Education, Religious and Fraternal by nature – referred to collectively as “SMERF” groups by hotels – don’t have a hired meeting planner to coordinate the event. Often, the planner is a staff member with other regular duties or even a volunteer who may or may not have experience in event planning. Does this sound familiar? Have you been volunteered?

Recently, I had an experience bidding on a User Group conference that went way beyond just marking the “x” next to the question on the RFP: Access to the Internet: Wired ___ or Wireless ___.
I thought I would share this experience and hope it is helpful when searching for your next meeting destination/site.
